Co-coaching

Man coaching another man in an office setting using a tablet , paper and computer.

Co coaching is a session for the employee and their manager.  This is particularly helpful where the employee is receiving workplace strategy coaching sessions.

The coach will mediate between the employee and their manager to open the lines of communication, helping the employee to understand that they need to:

  • Practise the strategies they have learnt between coaching sessions
  • Bring real experiences and examples into the coaching session
  • Feed back to the coach and manager what is and is not working
  • Discuss their progress regularly with their manager
  • Share info as much as possible with people who can help.  It is difficult for people to make accommodations if they are not aware of the employees needs

The coach will help the manager to understand that to support their team member they may need to:

  • Adjust expectations of the employee’s capabilities as they improve
  • Make time and space for the employee to practice techniques
  • Be available to listen to the employee and talk about what is happening
  • Be really clear about changes in performance or ability
  • Help find examples of work issues that need improving
  • Remember that each person has their own learning style and pace at which they learn
