Large print is defined as anything above 14 point – however we recommend that when producing large print versions of information that you use 18 point. This is because individuals with a wider range of visual impairment would be served by adopting this text size, whilst at the same time documents in this font size wouldn’t be too bulky when printed out.

It’s not always easy but there is a responsibility to provide information, particularly key information, in the required alternative format wherever possible. For this reason, we do recommend making key documents available in large print. An excellent guide to creating large print documents exists on the Office for Disability Issues (ODI) website that includes tips such as avoiding photocopying existing documents in order to make them large print wherever possible.
